A multi-year deal will bring thousands of connected gas detectors to protect workers in the UAE’s energy sector.
In a landmark agreement, Blackline Safety Corp. of Canada has begun rolling out its connected safety technology with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in the United Arab Emirates. The deal, secured through partner Al Masaood, covers up to 28,000 connected gas detectors with four years of service. ADNOC, one of the world’s largest energy producers generating over four million barrels of oil daily, placed its first order that includes 1,000 G6 wearable detectors and 1,200 location beacons to strengthen safety across its facilities.

The G6 device is designed to set a new benchmark for gas detection by combining long-lasting connectivity, precise real-time location tracking, and robust safety alerts. Together with the location beacons, it ensures accurate protection even in areas where GPS signals are weak. For frontline workers, this technology means faster emergency response when every second matters.
Andrea Lamond, Vice President of Growth Operations at Blackline Safety, described the agreement as a milestone in their Middle East growth strategy. Beyond protecting workers, the deal highlights how connected technology can also boost operational efficiency in the energy industry.
Looking ahead, this partnership has the potential to reshape how worker safety is managed in the region. If widely adopted, connected safety ecosystems like Blackline’s—combining IoT devices, cloud-hosted software, and real-time monitoring—could become standard practice across the global energy sector. The long-term impact may extend far beyond ADNOC, setting a precedent for how industries safeguard employees in challenging environments worldwide.
Key Terms Explained
- Connected Gas Detector: A wearable device that not only measures hazardous gases but also transmits data in real time for immediate response.
- IoT (Internet of Things): A network of connected devices that share data, in this case enabling constant monitoring of worker safety.
- Location Beacon: A device that enhances tracking accuracy indoors or in areas where GPS is unreliable, ensuring no worker goes unnoticed in an emergency.
