Overseas sales now exceed 50%, driven by rising demand for household safety and smart gas detection.
Shin-Cosmos Electric, a Japanese gas sensor and alarm manufacturer, is enjoying record growth in its North American business. In the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2026, sales of home-use gas alarms jumped 38.1% year on year, led by strong demand for battery-powered methane detectors. Overall company revenue rose 16.3% to 10.98 billion yen, while operating profit climbed 21.2% to 1.59 billion yen.
A major milestone was reached as overseas sales accounted for 53.9% of total revenue, crossing the 50% threshold for the first time. This shift reflects the company’s ability to tap into global markets where safety concerns and energy infrastructure are rapidly evolving.
While the industrial fixed-type gas detectors segment saw a decline due to weak demand in the semiconductor industry, both home-use and portable detectors for workers performed well. Sales of portable gas detectors in China and South Korea were particularly steady, supported by robust maintenance services.
Beyond financials, Shin-Cosmos continues to showcase its innovation. In June, the company released “AIR FLOW PRO,” explosion-proof fan-equipped clothing designed to prevent heatstroke in hazardous work areas. This move comes as Japan strengthens workplace safety regulations in response to rising heat-related accidents.
Looking ahead, Shin-Cosmos plans to build on its 65-year legacy of safety technology by expanding into new areas such as hydrogen detection and workplace safety wear. With gas safety becoming more critical worldwide and regulators tightening safety standards, the company is well-positioned to grow its global footprint and support industries in achieving higher safety and sustainability standards.
